MISsion statement

We are the GirlsBuild team from Garfield High School: Las Sonadoras sin Fronteras (the Dreamers without Borders). This year, our goal is to host a community food drive. According to the University of Southern California, 1 in 4 Angelenos were struck with food insecurity since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. The university states that “people who experienced food insecurity — particularly those who were regularly food insecure — were much more likely to experience a decline in the healthiness of their diet.” As the COVID-19 situation worsens, our team aims to host an organic food drive, making fresh fruits, vegetables, and resources available to members of the East LA community. Additionally, we will distribute recipe pamphlets and informational guides to promote wellness and healthy food alternatives.

MEET THE TEAM!

Daniela Marquez

Hi my name is Daniela Marquez and I am senior at GHS. It’s my first year as part of the Girls Build team. I joined it because I am very passionate about the problems in our society and want to help solve them. I play percussion in our high school’s marching band but my favorite instruments to play are quad drums and glockenspiel.
